Boasting a stronger, more defined sound laced with frontman Mat McHugh's gorgeous melodic vocals, this is a ballsier Beautiful Girls - but even more deliciously listenable. Condensed into ten strong tracks, Ziggurats takes the darker depths and irie reggae vibes of their second album to a more resonant, rock and roll place. New drummer Bruce Braybrooke makes his presence felt in a major way, from the opening notes of the blistering opener, Royalty. Braybrooke has defined a solid rhythm section on this record, prompting head-nodding and toe-tapping. Like all gloriously well-produced records, it has a sonic brilliance you just can't pinpoint, it just caresses the ears. |
