Limestone / Bomba
Source: Joe Camilleri "A love of reggae music or "lover's rock" compelled me to record some reggae songs of our time. Its a musical form that gets way under your skin. During the Falcon years I was coming up with my own mutated concept of what I call pop reggae. My first attempt was a song called So Young, it crossed many boundaries and I couldnt get enough of it. 25 years later I find myself retracing songs from that time. I met a chap called Nicky Bomba in a recording session for the Revelators and we shared a great love for roots reggae music. We started a little studio recording band "the Newport Reggae Junkies' and from that early recording Limestone was born with Nicky Bomba and I sharing musical duties. We really enjoyed playing on each other's songs. There was no pressure to make a record it was just a mutual love addiction. The title track Limestone was penned mainly by Nicky. Both being Maltese born, we found another common ground. We made the song into a postcard about the heart of the Mediterranean which sounds like a long way from the Caribbean but still captures a feeling of life on a small island." |
